About

All Cancers Matter is a cancer campaign designed to create awareness about the various types of cancers that exist to encourage early detection and to provide support for cancer victims, survivors, caretakers and the loved ones left behind from the disease.

Under a guiding mantra, “We go through…. to help others get through” this campaign was conceived by Lisa Gizelle Turnquest, a now 7 year Non-hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor who felt that not enough attention was being given to the less popular types of cancers such as the type she had.

Turnquest believes that the more awareness that can be created about the symptoms of this largely silent killer in its varying forms – the more lives can be spared.

The concept is simple.

Firstly, companies, groups, organizations, individuals, adults and children alike will be invited to purchase the Letsband242 silicone wristband and wear it proudly for loved ones in the war, those that survived the war and those who were lost in the battle.

The design packaging features Cancers ribbons of different colors to represent the multitude of cancers that exist today, many of which go unnoticed or incorrectly diagnosed.

It is hoped that the visibility of the “Bahamas-inspired” band will demonstrate widespread support for this disease and its variants which are so widespread throughout The Bahamas.

Turnquest launched the program initially on her home island of Grand Bahama and hoped that New Providence and all the other islands will quickly follow, turning it into a national campaign.

Kelly’s Freeport Limited will be the official retail distributor on Grand Bahama.

The campaign’s benefactors will be: The GB Cancer Society AND the GB Cancer Association who will equally share in all proceeds from all funds raised by the sale of the bands and any related events and initiatives.

Secondly, the Letsband242.com website will feature monthly the specific type(s) of cancer as derived from the National Cancer Institute of America. It will further provide credible information via medical source links regarding symptoms and treatment options specific to the various type(s) of cancer featured.

This type of information will hopefully cause people to be more proactive about identifying whether or not symptoms they experience are in fact signs of cancers and what type so that they can seek the necessary medical attention required.

Lastly, the site will also be a resource mechanism, filled with stories, photos, blogs and supportive articles for and from cancer patients, survivors, and caretakers and family members of cancer victims, to utilize as a source of strength and encouragement during their cancer journey. This section will be called the War Room and it is here that soldiers in the cancer war can share the highs and lows of their journey.

A key element of the site will be an Insurance Matters section where cancer victims, can enquire about insurance benefits, alternatives for care, and medical concierge.  Further a topic that is more difficult to address, but extremely important will be featured under the scope of Final Intentions which will encompass will creation, estate planning and burial instructions.

Recognizing that cancers effect persons not just physically but psychologically and even spiritually, our website will provide access to professionals in the Cancer 360 Support section who can render assistance in these regards.

Our Coins for Cancer section will provide individuals, companies, families and anybody who wishes to give financially to do so in an anonymous fashion. The funds raised will be used for travel for victims to receive care that is unavailable on their respective islands. It will also be used to purchase and donate medical supplies ( namely chemo ports), for persons receiving public care.

We go through…to help others get through.
